Speedo Fishing in Khorat

I think these boys are fishing, or at least the one in the water seems to be. After seeing the archeological site at Ban Prasat, I drove around the town a bit on my motorbike, stopping on a bridge to try to figure out what these guys were doing. The one in the water had on a snorkling mask and held a long stick with a metal rod (?) attached to it. He would go underwater for a minute or two kicking like mad trying to stay under. Then he would rise covered in muck and river weed. Ewww. By the way, Thai people are very modest, in general, but apparently it is ok to swim in your brightly colored speedo sized underwear because I saw similar scenes repeated several times across Isaan.
