Making Travel Plans
Posted by Stuart at 12:43 PM on April 09, 2003Things always take longer to do in Bangkok than what I am used to. If I think a task will take 1 day, it's bound to take 3. So today when I went add more pages for my passport at the American Embassy, I was shocked that the process was efficiently completed in 10 minutes.
By the way, I noticed that there were no more protesters in front of the embassy, as there were before the war started. I guess that people here realize that those with power do what they want to do, regardless of what anyone else thinks.
I also started to make travel arrangements for my Songkran trip to Laos, but quickly realized that I waited too long. Apparently, the entire country is travelling this weekend and everything is booked. So, I guess I will wait for some other time to make the trip.
Hi Bryan. It's always a nice surprise to hear from old friends, especially ones with whom I kinda lost contact for a while. (Assuming you are the Bryan I think you are :) I'll refrain from mentioning how long ago our high school days were...
As far as my dental adventures, only one tooth hurt, but five of them had cavities. D'oh! The ones that were filled are still a little tender, unforunately. I'm still waiting for them to heal before I tackle the others.
Since it was only one tooth, I guess I can put off my contemplation about the plural form of toothache. Regardless, glad you came out of it. You didn't forget to pack your toothbrush, did you?
It has been forever since high school. But, in our fleeting youth, we still have our memories. (That is, until we lose that capacity...yuk yuk yuk).
I have not worked back in your e-memoirs to find out what took you to Thailand, but I look forward to it. I am envious of your ability to see such distant places.
As for SARS, we have that here, too. Some lady visited the Orient and came back with it to Niceville. She gave it to a 6 year-old family member and he is the first juvenile case in the U.S. In Niceville, of all places. Can you believe it? This worries me, as far as how quickly stuff gets spread among school kids. The only reassurance is "they" say that the virus is only passed through prolonged contact. They did not give any specifics on what "prolonged" means, though. I guess since it is a new virus there is still much to be learned. They think that it is a mutation of the Corona virus (thank God it has nothing to do with the beer, or I'd be doomed), which can live for long periods of time outside of its host.
Enough of that.
Great to hear from you. I subscribed to the SGT News Daily, so I look forward to hearing of your endeavors. Please keep in touch, and I will do likewise.

Kewl site. I was able (timewise) to read through the last week or so... sorry to hear about the toothache (is plural toothaches or teethache?)
Lata.
