Free Wireless Internet at Coffee Society on Silom
Posted by Stuart at 08:04 PM on April 24, 2004It's been a slow, uncomfortable, hot week in Bangkok. The combination of blazing hot weather, a stomach virus that took a week to defeat, and catching up on work after a week's vacation took it's toll.
But now the stomach bugs seem to be under control. Work seems to be under control as well, especially after spending 7 hours in a coffee shop catching up on my work today. By the way, Coffee Society on Silom Road (Sala Daeng BTS station) has been re-instated as "Stuart's Favorite Coffee Shop in Bangkok". Why? Three words: Free Wireless Internet.
Hi Stu, it's comforting to know that there are free wireless internet access to go with the coffee in this burning hot weather. Can i ask exactly where can i find these locations ? Do i need to pay for it? or only if i have a wireless lan card i will be fine. Man i am visiting in a month and would be so glad to know that it's all free. Cheers, Gilb
Hey Buzz... Welcome back! But I am wondering, where are all the stories about Europe?!
Gilb, wireless internet is a new thing over here in Thailand. Coffee Society on Silom Road (Sala Daeng BTS station) is the first place I have found in Bangkok that offers FREE wireless. Many of the Starbucks around town also have wireless, but you have to pay for it (and it's not all that cheap, relatively speaking).
Outside of Bangkok, you can forget about it. I have yet to see a wireless network in the provinces. But there are usually plenty of internet cafes in the major towns at least.

Hey Stu, glad to hear you are over the bug. I am catching up on your blog, as I was in Europe for 3 weeks, followed by a trip to Tampa to see Jimmy Buffett. I can't believe it is already 99 degrees in Siam. It is only the beginning of Spring, for cryin' out loud!!!!
