All Quiet on the Thai Front
Posted by Stuart at 06:39 PM on January 09, 2005It's been two full weeks since I have written on this website. What do I have to say for myself? Not much. My time on the Internet has been spent reading about the Tsunami, and have been unable myself to write about it.
There were two personal stories were told to me that were blog-worthy in the last two weeks, however. Both involved other people's tears. In one, tears of joy were shed as life-long dreams were finally realized in front of a fireplace, next to the Christmas tree. The other tears fell a week later, on the other side of the world as the horror of this year's Christmas in Phuket was related to me. These ears, unfortunately, yet understandably, were caused from unfathomable loss and anger.
Both stories touched me deeply, but I have been so far unable to find the words to record them.
To be honest, I wonder how many posts will actually show up on this website in 2005. I'd guess that there won't be many for the near future. After keeping this site going for over two years, I can't seem to find the motivation to keep it going on a regular basis.
But who knows, perhaps this is just a little slump and I will be back in form soon. Or perhaps my three jobs this semester will keep my life busy, and therefore, not very interesting (from a personal website's point of view :)
Only time will tell...
Enjoy the break Stuart. You're on holidays so do what you want to do. Devastation on that scale is mind blowing, and its incredibly hard to write about it without some sort of involvement. You'll probably hear 1001 stories when you get back. You look as though you've got a head down, tail up period of time waiting for you. Safe travels.
Sorry to see you go, but blog burnout is starting to be a new affliction for many writers. In the meantime, I'll try and continue with your style and inspiration at my blog about Southeast Asia at:

If you come back and blog again, would you please send me an email and tell me about your resurection? That would be appreciated!
Are you also quitting Bangkok MetroBlog? You are involved in that project ..aren't you?
See my Blogroll for other Thailand bloggers.
Hi All... thanks for the comments. I am not completely retiring, just maybe slowing down a bit. I know that this semester will be a busy one for me, which means that I won't be travelling as much or doing as many fun things, which means that I won't have much to write about. And the last thing I want to do is bore all of you with stories about what I ate for lunch :)
P.S. Gai pad med ma muang (Cashew Chicken)
I'm sitting here in San Francisco and any time I can read ANYTHING about Thai food, that's OK with me. So if you can't do any incredible travel, just write about cashew chicken with those shiny red peppers, and I'll follow you out the door. And why not just do restaurant reviews in Bangkok? I think that would be a big hit, and great fun!
:hugs: Good luck with your work this year.
