Emerald Buddha Chiang Rai

An (almost) exact replica of the famous Emerald Buddha that is now housed in Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok. This one is just .1 cm shorter and is in Chiang Rai where the original was found. Legend has it that lightning struck an abandoned pagoda in 1336 and the Emerald Buddha was found inside the rubble. The image then had a long history of being moved among several temples in Thailand before it finally came to rest in Bangkok.
