Dentist #2

Posted by Stuart at 08:36 AM on April 04, 2003

My second trip to the dentist this week occurred yesterday. Unfortunately, this time wasn't as pleasant as the first time. The first time, an older gentleman quickly and quietly filled my new cavity. This time, a young girl (his daughter?) tackled the older, bigger cavity in the back.

As she started working she was chatting a lot to the assistant (it sounded to me like she was training her. Definitely not a confidence builder!) and because of the pain she was inflicting, I immediately asked for novocaine. The shot numbed the entire side of my face including my ear. The worst part of it was that the cavity filling procedure still hurt.

She also suggested that I PULL two teeth instead of filling the cavities in them. I'm not looking forward to that at all but unfortunately, I think she is probably correct in her diagnosis.

You are one brave motherf***er!! Well.. I hope they are pulling out your wisdom teeth (which by the way should be gone longtime ago).. and not your other teeth. Well... you sure have more trust in third world country doctors than me.

WAIT a minute.. I am from a third world country!! silly me!

take care of yourself.

from your gardian angel.

I am just assuming that they are my wisdom teeth. They are all the way in the back and I know I've never had any teeth pulled.

Medical services in Thailand are actually pretty good and inexpensive. At least my experiences have been good so far. Thanks for looking out for me though ;)

I agree --- find out if they are your wisdom teeth. I still have all four of my wisdom teeth, because there has never been any need for them to be pulled. If they are those teeth far, far in the back, is it very easy to miss them when brushing --- I know I have to keep constantly aware of cleaning my wisdom teeth.

I know you will do what is best ... which will probably inflict even more pain I'm sure!!! :-( Poor little you!!!!

Love you!!

I agree too! In another thread, I think I recounted my adventures with Thai medicine. I was rather impressed.

don't feel bad. I had a crown put onto my recent root canal treatment. I had to go back because the indentation they took with the sticky shit they stuff in your mouth didn't get sent to the lab for some odd reason. I had to do it twice more to make sure. Gross.

But pulling teeth is pretty nasty. Hopefully you will now floss daily and brush after every meal... whatever type of meal that may be.

;)

See? Nothing good ever comes from visiting the dentist. If there's one thing I've learned from this story, it's that you should avoid dentists at all costs. Excuse me now, I have to cancel my appointment for Monday.

Wow, I really hit a nerve with the dentist post, huh? Looks like everyone loves to go to the dentist...

Speaking of hitting a nerve, my teeth STILL hurt almost a week later. Two nights ago I was eating dinner and for some reason the left side of my face went numb for a second or two. The dentist must have hit something big while she was reparing the cavity. Ouch.

I think I will wait to do the remaining dental work until I heal completely. Otherwise, I won't be able to chew on EITHER side.

And we wouldn't want that to happen!!

Actually, I am glad you posted this, because it is a reminder that I have GOT to get to the dentist! yucky ----

Love you!!

I would like to get some dental implants and cannot afford it here in the States, I was thinking of going to Asia but now you have really scared me. Is there anyway of getting something like this done with no fear ?

Actually, my experiences with the dentists of Thailand have greatly improved. I have filled two more cavities at a different dentist and he did a great job.

Thailand is a very good place to get medical treatement because of the low price. Plus, you can throw in a vacation in a amazing country for free. I think the key is to just do a little research. Just pick one of the top hospitals in Bangkok and you will be fine. The best one in the country is Bumrungrad Hospital. But there are several others as well: Bangkok Christian, St Louis, and Samitivej.

Just do a little research and you'll be fine!

Can you recommend a good and inexpensive dentist in Bangkok? I'm thinking of going there quite soon for dental work.

Hi Chris. See the post above for my recommendations. I have been going to the Dentist at Bangkok Christian Hospital on Silom. It's located near Silom Soi 6, across from the headquarters of Bangkok Bank, and is easily accessible from the Sala Daeng SkyTrain station.

Good luck!

i work at bumrungrad, and they are very efficient here. check out http://www.bumrungrad.com/en/findadoc/docsearch.asp?language=EN and select dentists for the speciality, you can look at photos of the dentists, check their qualifications, make appointments online. Cheers.
