No Electricity

Posted by Stuart at 09:40 AM on July 08, 2003

After leaving work at 9 PM last night I headed directly to Coffee Society to continue working on my paper. I finally got home about 11:30 to find out my electricity had been turned off. There was a note that looked like a bill on my door, but since it was writen in Thai, I can only guess at its meaning. I think (judging by baht amounts and dates) that it is saying I didn't pay my electrical bill in March and April.

I didn't live in the apartment in March and I am sure I paid in April. Luckily I kept all of my bills and receipts so I will have to go back and try to figure out what is up.

Of course, though, it was dark last night so that activity will have to wait for now.

Piyawat came over to help me talk to the folks in the apartment office. I have learned that it is always good to have a Thai person with you any time you have to talk about money, or anytime you are trying to get service.

Apparently my electricity was turned off because someone forgot to pay the electrical bill the month before I moved in. Piyawat explained to them that it was not my fault and that I was "very angry". I wasn't really. Just a bit annoyed.

In any case, they turned it back on for one night, but then when I returned home after work last night, it was off again. But, at least now I know where the switch is (hehe ;)
