Contract Signed

This morning I just signed a two-year contract to teach at the University. I can get out of the contract at any time (as long as it is at the end of the semester) but I think I might try to stick out the two years. I wonder if I will feel like a local by then. Hopefully at least I will be able to speak and read some of the language.

I start work full-time the first part of January, so I am going to get in as much travelling as possible, including making it back to the US for Christmas, of course.

First stop: A nice Thai beach this weekend.

Congratulations Stuart!
I'm just a stranger living in Chicago that stumbled across your travelog. Having visited Thailand twice in the early 90's I'm really enjoying the vicarious journey you blog offers.

I'm really happy you've found a good opportunity to work and live there.

Cheers!
Charles

Congrats Stuart!
I think it would be a great accomplishment if you were able to complete the entire 2-year contract. I'm sure there will be times that you will want to leave, and there's no shame in that either. Enjoy your assignment. Also, after 26 years, the Oriental House is closing Dec. 7th, so no more Sweet and Sour chicken for you. Take care and good luck. Peace - Eric

What??? No, Eric!! It can't be!! I don't care if I no longer live in P'cola, the Oriental House can't close!! It's a local monument and home to the early days of the Regaspi Blues, family style eating (where children and grandchildren of the owners would sit and entertain - conversationally and musically), and where fish could see out of both sides of the tank.

Alas, I must accept the fate, pay homage, and carry on.

Good!! and Congratulations on your contract!

This will allow me some extra time to plan a visit!!

Love you!!

Eric, I agree with Beth... I am very sad to hear that the Oriental House is closing after all these years. But I guess it is ok for your parents to eventually retire :)

Wow... what memories... the sweet and sour chicken, soft serve ice cream, the fishtank, the travel posters, the 12 year old punk learning how to play trumpet in the corner (that would be you, Eric). Treats after soccer games, win or lose. A high school graduation party...

The Oriental House was my first experience eating "exotic" Asian food. And now look at me. haha.
