My Songkran Story

For the last three days I have been in a tiny village in the Buriram province in NE Thailand. There was no Internet connection in the village, so I wrote down my thoughts instead of typing them. Now that I am back in Bangkok I can post them all.

After typing everything in just now, I realize that I wrote a lot! I guess that I felt things very strongly this weekend. It was exactly the type of weekend that I wanted to experience when I came to Thailand in the first place. I learned so much about other ways of life and in turn it taught me and challenged my own views of the world.

I hope I have done a good job of explaining what I saw and felt on these pages.

What a wonderful picturesque account of your experience!! Thank you for sharing what you observed, how you felt, where you traveled, and in what traditions you were able to take part. How awesome to be able to sit and soak in culture that is completely opposite of what you know. It is therapeutic to encourage and see through challenges in life for it stretches your outlook, and deepens not only your sense of self but of the world around you.

Love you!!

You're lucky to leave the busy city and have a great Songkran experience there. I recomend you to try your Songkran next year at Khaosan Rd. It's another style of Songkran there. But I can tell you there's a lot of fun there. Anyway you seems very happy with your trip. Did u take photos? I f you did, post it as soon as possible please...

Seems like you've found something rather precious. A very intimate family experience. Especially the experience of honoring the family patriarch. Seems you've truly found a Thai family to be adopted by. :-)
Happy Songkran to you Stuart!

Jock.... oh, Songkran at Kao Sarn Road. I am not sure if I want to get in to all of that mess or not. Some say that it is a lot of fun, some say that it is just too much.

In any case, of course I took photos on my trip. Always! :) I have posted the best ones in the Thailand: Bangkok and in the Thailand:Northeast archives.
