For the first two years of my life in Thailand, I didn't have Internet access at my home, so I spent a lot of time in Internet cafes and coffee shops that had free wireless Internet. My two favorites were Coffee Society and Bug and Bee. Both of these shops are near each other on Silom Road at the Sala Daeng BTS station.
Now that I have DSL, I do all my work at home. Working at home has it's advantages, but it can also be lonely and boring. I have always preferred studying and doing work in a somewhat busy atmosphere.
So I was just wondering where Bangkok's best places for free wireless access are located these days. A reader of this website sent me an email last year, recommending "Tamarind Cafe, fairly far down on Sukhumvit 20. Fancy vegetarian cafe, great food & great shakes, free wireless. Open till midnight."
I haven't been to Tamarind Cafe, but maybe I will give it a try soon. Does anyone else have any suggestions for free wireless Internet in Bangkok?

sorry no :-) best to go and try out all those places and choose the best !
TK Park, on the 6th floor (I think) Central World Plaza (old World Trade Center). They have a small cafe where you can sit and work. But avoid weekends unless you like kids screaming while you are concentrating on your work.
Take a True hotspot subscription.
They also have package deals with their DSL subscriptions
Not that expensive and you can sit at many nice locations.
Represented at almost all shopping malls. Another advantage: it's easier to find locations that have both true wireless and powerplugs for the laptop ;)
I might have been ripped off, but the True hotspot subsciption I paid for last month (at the Fortune Hotel on Rachada) was 600 baht for 5 hours of use... They also sold 1 hour/2 hour block subscriptions, at an even higher rate. Then again, maybe that rate is considered cheap in Thailand?
Ironically, I picked up several free signals on the top floor of the mini-mall that the Fortune is connected to... Although not all of them were intentionally shared, I think. The strongest signal was one from a mobile shop (one with big DTAC signs in front), next to which there was a place to sit AND a power outlet!
my friend just bought Airplus MCD-510 - USB Wireless Modem from Hutch. 999baht/month or something (not sure)... but it's very tempting :Pbut again..i bet u already know all about it chai mai :P
This might sound crazy.. How about Bangkok University?
Thanks for all of the suggestions. I have seen the signs advertising the True wireless service in Starbucks and Au Bon Pain. (I guess it's similar to the T-Mobile service in the U.S.) I'll have to look into it more.
And Jet, it's too bad that BU makes you type in your login name and password -- teachers and students only!

Wish I'd found that earlier!
As the matter of fact, while many people are searching for free wireless service, somebody is enjoying the free wireless service serving right there in their room.
After moving into my apartment about 8 months ago one day after talking to my freind that in one area in his house where he can go online with wireless which provided by some anonymous neighbor, I found ome signal right here on my bed. Well how couldn't I enjoy bed & Breakfast & wireless here?
That's cool, Ben. Even though I live in a hi-rise condo building right next door to another hi-rise condo building, there are no wi-fi signals here. But believe me, it was one of the first things I tried
when I moved in here!

There is a GREAT cafe called Koffie Korner that has free wifi! Koffie Korner is located at 459/20 Suan Plu Soi 8, South Sathorn Road. If you go in tell the owners Jonah sent you!
Jonah, thanks for the info about Koffie Korner. I don't make it over to Soi Suan Plu very often, but next time I'm over there I'll check it out.
