Thaksin Will No Longer Be Prime Minister

After appearing on TV last night and saying, "Why should I quit?", Thaksin just announced that he will no longer be the Prime Minister of Thailand.

I will not accept post of premier in the next government : Thaksin from the Nation newspaper.

Wow. No commentary here, just surprised. Very surprised.

Boy, you get around don't you?
Sounds like politicians all over - although those in the main chair (Prime Ministers) tend not to leave. They usually have others to blame most things on.

Mark, yeah, I try to "get around" as much as possible :)

This whole Thaksin thing is so interesting. I have never heard of a Prime Minister who has volunteered to step down because of a few little protests. The last two elections in America have been close to 50/50 as well, but George W seemed to think that was enough of a mandate to do as he pleased.

But I am sure Thaksin is not going far. He is still a member of Parliament, and he still is the leader of his party. Looks like he might still be pulling the strings from the behind the scenes once he returns from his holiday.
